How to add Cliniko online bookings to a GoDaddy website

In GoDaddy Website Builder, add a section, choose HTML under Files and Web, then paste Cliniko's embed code from Settings, Online bookings. Counting bookings works the same as any Cliniko embed, but keeping the ad or search source does not: GoDaddy's help centre does not confirm its HTML section supports Cliniko's workaround script, so link to the hosted page instead if that matters.

Method
Iframe embed pasted into GoDaddy's dedicated HTML section (not a free form block like WordPress), or a Book now button linking to Cliniko's hosted booking page
On mobile
GoDaddy's HTML section is added as its own block, so give it full width in the section's layout settings rather than leaving it at a default column width, which can squeeze the booking flow. Test the whole booking journey on a real phone, since GoDaddy's mobile preview does not always render a pasted iframe exactly as the published site does.
Can you track bookings?
Partly. Counting a completed booking works the same on GoDaddy as anywhere else: Cliniko's own settings, not GoDaddy's, run the GTM container that reports it, and GoDaddy does not need to do anything for that part to work. Keeping the original ad or search source is the part in doubt. That already fails on a typical embed for a documented reason, iframes do not carry referral data across domains, and Cliniko's fix for it is a small script that has to run reliably inside the page around the iframe. GoDaddy's own help centre could not be reached to confirm whether scripts placed in its HTML section behave the same way a WordPress Custom HTML block does, so treat that workaround as unconfirmed on GoDaddy specifically, not as it works.

Add Cliniko bookings to GoDaddy Website Builder

  1. In Cliniko, log in as an Administrator, go to Settings, Online bookings, and switch bookings on for the appointment types and practitioners you want to take online.
  2. Under Code to embed in your website, click Copy code.
  3. In GoDaddy Website Builder, go to the page where you want bookings, choose the location, and click Add section.
  4. Under Files and Web, select HTML, then click Add next to Embed custom code on the page.
  5. Paste Cliniko's code into the field and click Done.
  6. Publish the site, then make a test booking on a phone and a desktop before pointing a Book now button anywhere else on the site at this page.

Track the bookings

  1. Paste your Google Tag Manager container ID into Cliniko under Settings, Online bookings. This is enough on its own to count a completed booking, add a Google tag with your GA4 Measurement ID on All Pages, and a GA4 Event tag firing where Page Path contains bookings/confirmation.
  2. If you want to try Cliniko's postMessage workaround on GoDaddy anyway, add it as a second custom code section listening for the cliniko-bookings-page:confirmed message, publish, and test it yourself with a tagged link and GA4 DebugView rather than assuming it fires.
  3. If you would rather not gamble on that, skip the embed and use a large Book now button that links to Cliniko's own hosted booking page instead. GoDaddy's builder handles a plain link without any custom code at all, and a hosted page keeps the referral source intact because the browser genuinely navigates there.

A more rigid embed than WordPress

Cliniko publishes a dedicated guide for GoDaddy because the mechanics differ from a page builder like WordPress's block editor. Instead of typing /html into a paragraph and pasting code inline with the rest of the page, GoDaddy's process is: add a whole new section, choose HTML under Files and Web, then use a dialog called Embed custom code on the page. The result is functionally the same iframe once it is live, but you are placing it as a self contained section rather than dropping it into flowing content, which limits how it sits next to other page elements.

Cliniko's own guide for this walks through the four steps cleanly and does not raise any limitation with the process itself. It also does not mention tracking, analytics, or Google Tag Manager anywhere in the GoDaddy specific article, which is one reason to treat this page's tracking guidance as general Cliniko advice applied to GoDaddy, not GoDaddy specific confirmation.

The same Direct attribution problem, with one extra unknown

The reason an embedded Cliniko booking reports as Direct in GA4 has nothing to do with GoDaddy. It is because the booking pages inside the iframe are served from Cliniko's own address, and Cliniko's help centre is explicit that iframes do not support cross domain tracking, so referral data from your page does not pass into the booking flow.

Cliniko documents a workaround: a short script on the page around the iframe listens for a message the iframe sends when a booking is confirmed, and pushes that event into your own site's GTM container, where the original source is still known. That script has to run cleanly on your website, and this guide could not confirm from GoDaddy's own help centre whether a script placed in its HTML section behaves the same way as one placed in a WordPress Custom HTML block or a Wix embed, since GoDaddy's help pages did not load during research for this guide. Test it yourself before relying on it, and do not assume it works simply because it works elsewhere.

The plainer alternative

If tracking the source of a booking matters more to the clinic than having the flow sit inside the page, skip the embed on GoDaddy and use a Book now button linking to Cliniko's own hosted booking page instead. That needs no custom code at all in GoDaddy, just a button pointed at a URL, and because the browser genuinely leaves your site, the referral or UTM data on that link survives the trip. Cliniko's own help centre gives this same advice generally: if tracking the referral source is essential, consider the hosted booking portal rather than embedding it.

  1. Embedding Cliniko bookings in GoDaddy Website Builder is done by selecting a location on the page, clicking Add section, choosing HTML under Files and Web, then Embed custom code on the page, and pasting the code copied from Cliniko's Settings, Online bookings page. Cliniko Help, checked 25 Sep 2026.
  2. The embed code is found under Settings, Online bookings, in the section Code to embed in your website, with a Copy code button, and requires Administrator access. Cliniko Help, checked 25 Sep 2026.
  3. Due to iframe limitations, referral data is not passed from a website into an embedded Cliniko booking iframe, iframes do not support cross domain tracking, and embedded bookings report as Direct or from the parent website in GA4. Cliniko Help, checked 25 Sep 2026.
  4. Cliniko's workaround for keeping the referral source on an embedded booking listens on the parent page for a message containing cliniko-bookings-page:confirmed and pushes a dataLayer event there. Cliniko describes the workaround as hit and miss and says it cannot offer troubleshooting support for it. Cliniko Help, checked 25 Sep 2026.
  5. Cliniko's help centre advises that if tracking the referral source is essential, a clinic should consider using the hosted online booking portal instead of embedding bookings in a website. Cliniko Help, checked 25 Sep 2026.
