NSW workers compensation remedial massage fees 2026-27

SIRA's Workers Compensation (Massage Therapy Fees) Order 2026, effective 1 February 2026, pays a massage therapist $95.10 for a 60 minute consultation (RMA001), $71.30 for 45 minutes (RMA002) and $47.70 for 30 minutes (RMA003), excluding GST. Unlike every other SIRA allied health order this year, none of these three fees changed from the 1 February 2025 schedule.

What changed this year

  • The three treatment fees (RMA001 to RMA003) did not move. The 1 February 2026 order sets the same $95.10, $71.30 and $47.70 as the order that took effect on 1 February 2025, while every other SIRA allied health fees order (physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy, exercise physiology, psychology and counselling) rose by around 4.5 to 4.8 per cent on the same date.
  • The one figure on this table that did rise is the clinical records fee (WCO005), which moved from $68.20 to $71.30 for electronic records, matching the increase applied to the same code across every other SIRA allied health order.
  • There is no telehealth item on this schedule. Unlike physiotherapy, exercise physiology and psychology, remedial massage in the NSW workers compensation scheme has no equivalent of a PTA301 or EPA301 telehealth consultation code, reflecting that massage therapy is a hands-on service.

The one SIRA allied health fee that did not rise

Every other SIRA workers compensation allied health fees order updated on 1 February 2026 carried an indexation increase of roughly 4.5 to 4.8 per cent: physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy, exercise physiology, psychology and counselling all moved up. Remedial massage did not. The Workers Compensation (Massage Therapy Fees) Order 2026 sets the same three consultation fees, $95.10 for 60 minutes, $71.30 for 45 minutes and $47.70 for 30 minutes, as the order that took effect on 1 February 2025.

The only line on the massage table that did move is the clinical records fee (WCO005), a code shared across every SIRA allied health order, which rose from $68.20 to $71.30 for electronic records in line with the wider indexation. If your practice software carried the old RMA prices forward unchanged from last year, that part is still correct; only the records fee needs updating.

GST works differently for massage than for most other allied health orders

Remedial massage treatment is subject to GST under this fees order. That puts it in different company to physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy, exercise physiology and psychologist-delivered psychology, which are all GST free for treatment on their own SIRA fee orders. The only other NSW workers compensation allied health treatment taxed the same way as massage is counselling delivered by a non-psychologist counsellor. Bill remedial massage with GST added to the schedule amount on every consultation, not just on reports or travel.

Who can bill this order, and what it does not cover

SIRA removed the requirement for massage therapists to be individually approved to treat NSW workers compensation claims from 1 January 2016, following a review aimed at reducing red tape across the allied health practitioner framework. The Massage Therapy Fees Order still applies in full regardless, so a massage therapist billing a claim needs their professional association accreditation or membership number on the invoice even without a SIRA approval number.

The schedule has no telehealth item, reflecting that remedial massage is delivered hands-on, and it sets no fee for treatment of a catastrophic injury, which is negotiated directly between the massage therapist and insurer. Where a claim needs services beyond these three consultation lengths and the records fee, check with the insurer before treating rather than assuming a comparable item from another SIRA allied health order applies.

Claiming notes

Load these fees into your practice software

  1. Cliniko supports bulk import of billable items under Settings, then Data & docs, then Data imports, choosing Billable items.
  2. Add a GST tax type first if you have not already, and set it on all three RMA items, since remedial massage treatment is taxable under this fee order, unlike physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy and exercise physiology treatment.
  3. Build a CSV with Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax), Taxable and Item type. Name each item by session length, for example "SIRA RMA001 Massage 60 min", so reception can match it to the appointment duration booked in Cliniko.
  4. Because these three fees did not change this year, you do not need to update RMA001 to RMA003 if you already loaded last year's schedule correctly. Only WCO005 (clinical records) needs a price update, from $68.20 to $71.30 for electronic records.
  5. Check RMA prices again at the next indexation date even if they held steady this year. Export existing billable items as a CSV, keep the Item ID column, update the price column, then re-import with just the price field enabled, keeping the original export as a backup.
