WorkCover QLD osteopathy table of costs 2026-27
From 1 July 2026 WorkCover Queensland pays $137 (GST not included) for an osteopathy initial consultation (item 900021) and $108 for a subsequent consultation (900006), the same figures as physiotherapy. Unlike physiotherapy, osteopathy has no work specific exercise program or specialist tier items, just four item numbers in total.

What changed this year
- The Osteopathy Services Table of Costs effective 1 July 2026 has just four item numbers, the shortest of any of WorkCover Queensland's allied health tables. The initial consultation (900021) is $137 and the subsequent consultation (900006) is $108, matching physiotherapy's standard consultation fees exactly.
- Osteopathy has no equivalent of physiotherapy's work specific functional exercise program (100314, 100402), specific assessment or consultation items (100406, 100407), or Specialist Physiotherapy Tier 3 intervention (100500). An osteopath treating a complex case bills the same four item numbers as a straightforward one.
- Osteopathy also has no group session item, unlike physiotherapy's group exercise sessions (100106) at $58 per person.
- The first five consultations, including the initial, are pre-approved for a new injury or condition. Treatment beyond that needs a Provider Management Plan.
All 4 osteopathy items
| Item | Description | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| 900021 | Initial consultation, no prior approval required | $137 |
| 900006 | Subsequent consultation, insurer approval required | $108 |
| 900055 | Reassessment or program review | $137 |
| 900226 | Independent case review, requested by the insurer only | $288 per hour, pro-rata |
A short table built around two consultation fees
WorkCover Queensland's Osteopathy Services Table of Costs, effective 1 July 2026, is the shortest of its allied health tables of costs, with just four item numbers. The initial consultation (900021) pays $137 and the subsequent consultation (900006) pays $108, GST not included, the same set fees as physiotherapy's standard consultations. Neither figure depends on how long the consultation runs, and a provider cannot bill for multiple initial or multiple subsequent consultations for the same worker on the same day.
A reassessment or program review (900055) is billed at the same $137 as an initial consultation, used when the worker has been in active rehabilitation for at least six weeks and further treatment is likely, when there are new clinical findings, or when there is no response to current treatment.
Where osteopathy's table differs from physiotherapy's
Physiotherapy has thirteen item numbers, osteopathy has four. Osteopathy has no equivalent of physiotherapy's work specific functional exercise program (100314 and 100402 in the physiotherapy table), no specific physiotherapy assessment or consultation items for complex conditions such as burns or spinal injuries, no Specialist Physiotherapy Tier 3 intervention paying up to $363 an hour, and no group exercise session item. An osteopath cannot bill any of these, even for a complex work related injury, and works from the same four item numbers regardless of complexity.
The only hourly rate item in the osteopathy table is the independent case review (900226) at $288 an hour, which is only billed when the insurer specifically requests an independent examination and report, not initiated by the treating osteopath.
Registration and consultation content
Every osteopathy service must be provided by an osteopath with current AHPRA registration. A consultation, whether initial or subsequent, may include subjective and objective assessment, treatment, tailored goal setting, and communication with the referrer and insurer about the worker's rehabilitation, but WorkCover Queensland does not pay a separate fee for any of these components. They are all included in the single consultation fee.
Claiming notes
- Prior approval: the initial consultation (900021) needs no prior approval. The subsequent consultation and reassessment need insurer approval before billing.
- One consultation per worker per day: a provider cannot bill for multiple initial consultations or multiple subsequent consultations for the same worker on the same day, and cannot claim an initial and subsequent consultation on the same day unless the insurer approves an exception.
- Provider Management Plan: once the pre-approved consultations are used, submit a PMP covering expected functional gains, transition to self-management and treatment timeframes. WorkCover Queensland does not pay a separate fee for completing the PMP.
- A reassessment or program review (900055) applies when the worker has been in active rehabilitation for at least six weeks and further treatment is likely, there are new clinical findings, a rapid change in status, or no response to current treatment.
- Independent case review (900226) is only billed at the insurer's request, never on the treating osteopath's own initiative, and provides an assessment and recommendation on ongoing treatment and prognosis.
- All fees in the table exclude GST. Check with the Australian Taxation Office or your accountant on whether GST applies to a particular item.
Load these fees into your practice software
- Cliniko's Data import tool (Settings, then Data imports) can create the four billable items in bulk from a CSV rather than adding them one at a time. Choose Billable items and click Import.
- Build a CSV with columns for the item code, a name staff will recognise (for example "WorkCover QLD 900021 Osteo initial consultation"), the price excluding tax, whether tax applies, and the item type (service). Cliniko matches your Tax Amount column to its Taxable field during the import.
- WorkCover Queensland states its fees exclude GST but does not mark individual osteopathy items as GST-free or taxable, so confirm the correct GST treatment with your accountant before setting the Taxable field.
- For the hourly independent case review item (900226), import the full hourly rate and adjust the quantity or price on the invoice to reflect the time actually billed.
- When WorkCover Queensland republishes the table each 1 July, export your existing billable items from Data exports, edit only the price column against the matching item codes, keep the original export as a backup, then re-import and enable just the price field.
