What changed this year
- The physiotherapy price limit did not move for 2026-27. Item 01_721_0128_1_3 (Direct Service) is $183.99 nationally in both the schedule effective 1 July 2026 and the one it replaced from 24 November 2025, at $183.99, $257.59 and $275.99 for national, remote and very remote respectively in both years.
- The document itself changed name and status: the NDIA now calls it the NDIS Pricing Schedule rather than Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, published against a Bill before Parliament that would let the Minister for the NDIS set prices by determination rather than the NDIA setting them directly.
- Physiotherapy sits mid-table among the therapy disciplines this financial year: cheaper than occupational therapy, podiatry and speech pathology at $193.99, dearer than exercise physiology at $161.99, and well under psychology at $252.99.

What NDIS pays for physiotherapy in 2026-27
The NDIS Pricing Schedule for 2026-27, effective 1 July 2026, sets the price limit for physiotherapy direct service at $183.99 an hour nationally, item 01_721_0128_1_3. In areas the Modified Monash Model classifies as remote the limit rises to $257.59, a 40 per cent loading, and in very remote areas to $275.99, a 50 per cent loading. Every therapy discipline in the schedule carries the same 40 and 50 per cent structure, so the loading itself is easy to remember even where the base rate differs.
The NDIA describes these as the appropriate and reasonable maximum prices for the support, not a guaranteed fee: providers must still discuss any price change with the participant, who has to agree before it takes effect.
The item numbers behind the price
The core item is 01_721_0128_1_3, named Assessment Recommendation Therapy or Training Supports - Physiotherapist in the 2025-26 arrangements and renamed Therapy - Physiotherapist - Direct Service in the 2026-27 schedule, with the price and item number unchanged. A near-duplicate item, 10_055_0128_5_3, prices identically at $183.99 an hour but is claimed under a participant's employment supports for assessment, counselling and advice related to finding or keeping a job, rather than under daily living therapy.
Each core item carries five companion codes for other ways the support is delivered: _CA for short notice cancellation, _NF for non-face-to-face work, _PT for provider travel, _RR for reports the NDIA specifically requests, and _TH for telehealth, all priced at the same $183.99 except provider travel.
Travel, cancellation and non-face-to-face rules
Provider travel prices at exactly half the direct rate, $92.00 an hour, and is capped by how far the Modified Monash Model zone puts the participant from you: 30 minutes each way is the cap illustrated in the pricing document's worked example for a therapy provider in a metro to large-regional area.
Short notice cancellation lets you claim up to 100 per cent of the fee with less than 2 clear business days' notice, and non-face-to-face time can be claimed only with the participant's prior written agreement, only where it is tied to their specific support, and never for administration or staff training, which sits inside the base price already.
Setting these up as billable items in Cliniko
Cliniko's billable item import brings in the item code, name and price from a CSV in one pass, and the bulk price update tool lets you refresh every NDIS item each July without retyping them. Neither replaces the paperwork: Cliniko does not process live NDIS claims the way it does DVA and Medicare through Tyro Health, so most physiotherapy practices invoice the participant or their plan manager directly and record payment against the invoice once it lands.
Claiming notes
- The full item name in the 2026-27 schedule is Therapy - Physiotherapist - Direct Service, item 01_721_0128_1_3. A near-identical item, 10_055_0128_5_3 (Employment Therapy - Physiotherapist), prices the same $183.99 an hour but is claimed against a participant's Finding and Keeping a Job supports rather than Improved Daily Living, for employment-related assessment, counselling and advice.
- Provider travel is priced at 50 per cent of the direct service rate: $92.00 an hour nationally, item 01_721_0128_1_3_PT. NDIS caps claimable travel time to the participant at 30 minutes each way for a provider based in a Modified Monash Model zone 1 to 3 area. The pricing document illustrates this cap with a worked example for a speech pathologist travelling 35 minutes to a participant, where only 30 of those minutes were claimable; the same 30-minute cap applies to a physiotherapist's travel under the same general claiming rules.
- Short notice cancellation (item 01_721_0128_1_3_CA) lets you claim up to 100 per cent of the session fee where the participant gave less than 2 clear business days' notice, or did not show up. You can waive it at your discretion, and it should be set out in the service agreement.
- Non-face-to-face time, such as writing a report that directly serves the participant's goals, can be claimed under the same item number, but only with the participant's prior written agreement in the service agreement, and never for administration, training or claim processing, which the base price already covers.
- Claim against the item that matches the professional who delivered the support. The general claiming rules are explicit that speech pathology therapy, for instance, must be claimed under the speech pathologist line item and not folded into 'Other Professional'; the same principle applies to physiotherapy.
Load these fees into your practice software
- Add the item under Settings, then Billable items, or bulk import a CSV with the columns Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax) and Item type, following Cliniko's billable item import process. Put 01_721_0128_1_3 in Item code and a name reception will recognise, such as 'NDIS Physiotherapy Direct Service'.
- Add separate billable items for provider travel (01_721_0128_1_3_PT at $92.00) and cancellation (01_721_0128_1_3_CA at $183.99) so invoices itemise them against the correct NDIS support item rather than folding them into the session fee.
- Update prices each 1 July with Cliniko's bulk price update: export billable items, edit the price column, then re-import and enable only the price field. There is no undo, so keep the original export.
- Cliniko's Tyro Health integration processes DVA and Medicare claims directly from the invoice; its help centre does not describe an equivalent real-time claiming pathway for NDIS. Most practices invoice the participant or their plan manager and are paid outside Cliniko.
