What changed this year
- The occupational therapy price limit is unchanged for 2026-27: item 01_661_0128_1_3 stayed at $193.99 national, $271.59 remote and $290.99 very remote, the same as the schedule that ran from 24 November 2025.
- There is still no dedicated NDIS item number for an assistive technology or home modification assessment by an occupational therapist. That work is billed at the same $193.99 hourly rate as any other occupational therapy session, under the same item 01_661_0128_1_3.
- Occupational therapy is priced identically to speech pathology and podiatry sits just below it at $188.99, while psychology, at $252.99, is the only therapy discipline priced well above the $193.99 to $161.99 band the rest of allied health sits in.

What NDIS pays for occupational therapy in 2026-27
The NDIS Pricing Schedule for 2026-27, effective 1 July 2026, holds the occupational therapy price limit at $193.99 an hour nationally, item 01_661_0128_1_3, the same figure that applied under the arrangements effective 24 November 2025. Remote areas carry a 40 per cent loading to $271.59 and very remote areas a 50 per cent loading to $290.99, the same loading structure the NDIA applies across every therapy discipline in the schedule.
This one item covers the full range of occupational therapy work funded under a participant's Capacity Building supports: functional assessments, therapy sessions, and the assessment and recommendation work that leads to assistive technology or home modification funding.
Why AT and home modification assessments do not have their own item number
A common question from occupational therapists moving into NDIS work is which item number to use for an assistive technology (AT) assessment or a home modification report. There is not a separate one. The assessment, recommendation and report writing are billed at the standard $193.99 hourly rate under item 01_661_0128_1_3, whether the session is a functional capacity review, an AT trial, or a home visit to scope a modification.
What does change is who bills for what happens next. The occupational therapist's assessment sets out what is needed, but the equipment itself or the construction work is priced separately in the NDIS Assistive Technology, Home Modifications and Consumables Code Guide, and is typically claimed by an AT supplier or builder registered under a different registration group, such as Home Modifications or one of the Assistive Technology and Equipment groups, rather than by the occupational therapist.
Travel, reports and cancellation
Provider travel prices at exactly half the direct rate, $97.00 an hour, which matters for occupational therapists doing home visits for AT trials or modification assessments rather than seeing participants in rooms. NDIA Requested Reports share the same $193.99 rate as a session, worth itemising separately given how often occupational therapy work with AT and home modifications produces a formal written report for the NDIA to consider.
Short notice cancellation lets you claim up to 100 per cent of the fee with less than 2 clear business days' notice, and non-face-to-face time, such as writing that report, needs the participant's prior written agreement before it can be claimed.
Setting these up as billable items in Cliniko
Cliniko's billable item import and bulk price update tools handle the mechanics: import the item code, name and price once, then refresh the price each July without retyping. Because AT and home modification assessments share the same item number as a standard session, there is no separate billable item to configure for them beyond naming the standard item clearly enough that reception and the occupational therapist both know it covers assessment work as well as therapy.
Claiming notes
- The item name changed from Assessment Recommendation Therapy or Training Supports - Occupational Therapist in the 2025-26 arrangements to Therapy - Occupational Therapist - Direct Service in the 2026-27 schedule. Both cover the same work: assessment, recommendation, therapy or training delivered by an occupational therapist, billed against item 01_661_0128_1_3.
- Assistive technology (AT) and home modification assessments, prescriptions and reports are not separate NDIS support items. An occupational therapist bills the time spent assessing a participant's AT or home modification needs against the standard hourly item, the same one used for any other occupational therapy session.
- What changes is where the resulting equipment or building work is funded from. Once the occupational therapist's assessment recommends a specific item or modification, its price is set by the separate NDIS Assistive Technology, Home Modifications and Consumables Code Guide, and the equipment or construction itself is usually claimed by a different registered provider under a different registration group, not by the occupational therapist.
- A near-identical item, 10_617_0128_5_3 (Employment Therapy - Occupational Therapist), prices the same $193.99 an hour but is claimed under a participant's Finding and Keeping a Job supports for employment-related functional or workplace assessments, not under Improved Daily Living.
- Provider travel prices at 50 per cent of the direct rate, $97.00 an hour, and short notice cancellation lets you claim up to 100 per cent of the fee for less than 2 clear business days' notice or a no show, on the same 01_661_0128_1_3 item family.
- Non-face-to-face time, for example writing a home modification assessment report, is billable against the same item, but only with the participant's prior written agreement recorded in the service agreement, and never for the administration or staff training already covered by the base price.
Load these fees into your practice software
- Add item 01_661_0128_1_3 under Settings, then Billable items, or bulk import a CSV with the columns Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax) and Item type, following Cliniko's billable item import process. Name it clearly, for example 'NDIS OT Direct Service', since the same item covers standard sessions, AT assessments and home modification assessments alike.
- Add companion billable items for provider travel (01_661_0128_1_3_PT at $97.00) and NDIA requested reports (01_661_0128_1_3_RR at $193.99), which OTs use more often than most disciplines given how much AT and home modification work involves a written report.
- Refresh prices each 1 July with Cliniko's bulk price update, exporting billable items, editing the price column, then re-importing with only the price field enabled. There is no undo, so keep the original export.
- Cliniko's Tyro Health integration handles DVA and Medicare claims from the invoice; its help centre does not describe an equivalent real-time NDIS claiming pathway. Practices invoice the participant or plan manager directly, including for AT and home modification assessment reports.
