Fee schedule

Comcare exercise physiology fee schedule 2026-27

Comcare publishes exercise physiology upper limit fees for every state and territory, uniquely showing both the GST-exclusive and GST-inclusive rate on each line. From 1 July 2026 a Queensland initial consultation pays $231.00 plus GST ($254.10 inclusive), and a South Australian or NT initial assessment pays $188.90 per hour plus GST. Claims managers are not bound by these fees.

What changed this year

  • Exercise physiology is the only Comcare allied health rate table that lists both the GST-exclusive and GST-inclusive figure on every line. A Queensland initial consultation is $231.00 exclusive of GST, $254.10 inclusive.
  • Queensland is the outlier on price: its Work Specific Functional Exercise Program items (30186, 30187) pay $231.00 and $173.00 per hour, well above every other state's $148.90 or lower initial consultation rate.
  • Every state and territory has a published exercise physiology rate, unlike occupational therapy, which Comcare only publishes for four jurisdictions.
  • Group session rates vary widely: $29.14 per person in Victoria versus $65.50 per person in NSW and the ACT, so a group program's viability under Comcare funding depends heavily on which state it runs in.

Every state has a rate, and GST is shown both ways

Exercise physiology is the most completely published of Comcare's allied health schedules in this family. Every state and territory has a listed rate, unlike occupational therapy, which Comcare only publishes for four. It is also the only one of the four disciplines where Comcare shows GST twice on every line, the exclusive figure and the GST-inclusive figure side by side, because exercise physiology is a taxable supply rather than GST-free medical treatment.

That distinction matters at invoicing time. A Queensland initial consultation is $231.00 exclusive of GST or $254.10 inclusive (item 30186), and the invoice needs to charge and remit the GST component the way physiotherapy and occupational therapy invoices, which are GST-free, do not.

Queensland prices well above every other state

Comcare's Queensland exercise physiology items are named for a Work Specific Functional Exercise Program and priced per hour at $231.00 for an initial consultation and $173.00 for a subsequent one, both well above the $148.90 or lower initial rate every other state and territory publishes. NT, SA and WA instead price a flatter $188.90 to $221.50 per hour regardless of whether it is an initial or subsequent session, while NSW, the ACT and Victoria price a lower initial consultation with a separate, cheaper standard or subsequent rate.

The practical effect is that the same one hour initial consultation costs a Comcare claim anywhere from $131.12 (Victoria) to $231.00 (Queensland) depending on which state it is delivered in, a wider spread than physiotherapy shows across the same jurisdictions.

Group sessions price very differently by state

A group exercise or return to work program is priced per participant everywhere, but the rate itself moves a lot: $29.14 per person in Victoria, $31.40 in the NT and SA, $33.04 in Tasmania, $58.00 in Queensland, and $65.50 in NSW and the ACT. A clinic quoting a workplace on an eight person group program needs to use its own state's figure rather than a number seen in a national average or another clinic's pricing, since the difference between the cheapest and most expensive state is more than double.

Loading the schedule into Cliniko

Because exercise physiology is taxed, the Cliniko setup is the reverse of a physiotherapy or OT import: tick Taxable on every consultation and group item rather than leaving it blank. Import the GST-exclusive figure as the item price so Cliniko calculates the GST-inclusive total consistently with how the practice normally invoices, rather than hard coding the inclusive figure Comcare also publishes.

Build the group session item priced per participant so a class invoice generates one line per attendee, and, for NT, SA and WA's per hour pricing, either bill the full hourly rate for a full session or set up a shorter unit item for partial hours. Comcare updates the schedule up to three times a year, so treat the price check as quarterly rather than annual.

Claiming notes

Load these fees into your practice software

  1. Cliniko supports bulk import of billable items. Go to Settings, then Data & docs, then Data imports, choose Billable items and click Import.
  2. Build a CSV with a heading row and these columns: Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax), Taxable, Item type. Enter the GST-exclusive figure in Price (ex. tax) and set Taxable to your GST tax type on every row, since exercise physiology is taxed unlike most other Comcare allied health items.
  3. Import only your own state's rows. Comcare's exercise physiology table covers every state, but a clinic only ever bills the one it operates in.
  4. For NT, SA and WA, where sessions are priced per hour, either bill the full hourly rate for a full hour delivered or build a shorter unit item (for example a 30 minute item at half the hourly rate) for shorter sessions.
  5. Create a separate group session item priced per participant, so a class of six generates six invoice lines rather than a single lump sum.
  6. Upload the CSV, click Next to match information, check each column matched, then click Import and finish. The items appear under Settings, Billable items.
  7. Comcare updates rates up to three times a year. Set a recurring reminder for 1 February, 1 July and 1 November to check the treatment rates page and re-import updated prices.
