From 1 July 2026 WorkSafe Victoria pays $208.70 for a 60 minute individual psychology consultation (PS602 and the initial PS612), up about 2.35 per cent on the schedule that started 20 August 2025. What changed this year
- Every PS item rose by about 2.35 per cent against the schedule it replaced. The 60 minute consultation (PS602 and PS612) moved from $203.91 to $208.70, and the 90 minute consultation (PS632) from $305.86 to $313.05.
- The prior schedule was not dated 1 July 2025 like most other disciplines. It took effect 20 August 2025, so psychology ran on a different mid-year cycle before the two schemes realigned on 1 July 2026.
- Telehealth psychology items (PS100T, PS602T, PS612T, PS622T, PS632T, PS600T, PS700T) pay the same fee as the equivalent in-person item. There is no telehealth discount or loading in either schedule.
- WorkSafe runs a second, separate fee schedule for Counselling Services, with its own CSL item codes and lower fees. The initial counselling consultation (CSL600) pays $181.19, well under the initial psychology consultation (PS612) at $208.70.

What changed on 1 July 2026
WorkSafe Victoria's Psychology Services fee schedule took effect on 1 July 2026, with every item up by about 2.35 per cent on the schedule it replaced. The 60 minute individual consultation, which covers both PS602 (ongoing) and PS612 (initial, or after a claim lodgment, new provider, or a 6 month treatment gap), rose from $203.91 to $208.70. The 30 minute consultation (PS622) is now $104.36 and the 90 minute consultation (PS632) is $313.05.
Psychology's prior schedule is worth noting because it did not follow the usual 1 July cycle. It became effective on 20 August 2025, roughly seven weeks into the financial year, which means a clinic that assumed every WorkSafe discipline resets on 1 July would have billed the old rate for part of that period. The 1 July 2026 schedule brings psychology back onto the same date as the rest of the allied health schedules.
Psychology and counselling are two different fee schedules
WorkSafe Victoria treats psychology and counselling as separate services with separate item codes, separate fees and separate provider requirements. Psychology sits under the PS prefix and needs general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA, plus WorkSafe's own approval to provide psychology services. WorkSafe cannot fund a provisional psychologist under this schedule at all.
Counselling sits under a different CSL prefix and a different policy. A counsellor does not need AHPRA registration, but does need a level 3 or 4 membership with the Australian Counselling Association or full clinical membership with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia. The fees are lower: the initial counselling consultation with an assessment report (CSL600) pays $181.19 against $208.70 for the equivalent initial psychology consultation (PS612), and the 60 minute long counselling consultation (CSL610) pays $162.26. A practice that runs both psychologists and counsellors needs to bill each practitioner against the correct schedule, not the one that happens to be open on screen.
Prior approval and reporting items
Most psychology consultations do not need prior WorkSafe approval. The exception is the 90 minute consultation (PS632), reserved for appropriate presentations or treatment modalities, which needs sign off from a WorkSafe agent and is capped at 5 approved consultations at a time. Group consultations (PS100) are billed per person, up to 10 people in the group, at $52.37 each.
Two reporting items sit outside the consultation list: PS109 for a treatment review form, completed after a consultation to review the worker's progress, and PS604 for a treatment planning form, completed after a consultation to set treatment goals. Both pay the full 60 minute consultation rate of $208.70, so they are not a token add-on fee, they are billed as a full session.
Loading the schedule into Cliniko
Build a single billable items CSV covering both the PS and CSL prefixes, but name each item clearly, for example WorkSafe VIC PS602 Individual consultation 60 min and WorkSafe VIC CSL606 Counselling standard 30 min, so reception picks the right one for the practitioner actually in the room. Cliniko's import wants the columns Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax), Taxable and Item type, uploaded from Settings, then Data & docs, then Data imports, then Billable items.
Confirm GST treatment with your accountant before you set the Taxable column, since WorkSafe's own PDF only says it pays GST on top of the listed fee where a service is taxable, without marking individual items. Roll prices forward each 1 July with Cliniko's export, edit, re-import cycle on the Item ID and price columns, and keep the original export because there is no undo once the new prices are imported.
Claiming notes
- Registration: a provider must hold general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA and be approved by WorkSafe to provide psychology services. WorkSafe cannot fund provisional psychologists.
- Professional indemnity insurance of at least $2 million is a condition of registration under the psychology services policy.
- Counselling is a different fee schedule with different registration rules: WorkSafe accepts a level 3 or 4 membership with the Australian Counselling Association, or full clinical membership with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia, and does not require AHPRA registration for that item set.
- The 90 minute consultation (PS632) is reserved for appropriate presentations or treatment modalities and needs prior approval from a WorkSafe agent, with a maximum of 5 consultations approved at a time.
- Fees are exclusive of GST. WorkSafe pays the GST component in addition where a service is taxable, and asks providers to confirm taxability with the ATO or their own adviser.
- Invoices go to the worker's managing agent (for example Allianz, EML, Gallagher Bassett, DXC, TAC or WorkSafe Claims and Recovery), not to WorkSafe directly, and a missing claim number delays processing.
Load these fees into your practice software
- Import billable items in Cliniko from Settings, then Data & docs, then Data imports, then Billable items, Import.
- Build the import CSV with the columns Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax), Taxable, Item type. Use the WorkSafe code in Item code (for example PS602) and a name starting with WorkSafe VIC (for example WorkSafe VIC PS602 Individual consultation 60 min) so reception is not guessing which item applies.
- Load the Counselling Services items (CSL prefix) as a separate block in the same import, clearly named WorkSafe VIC Counselling so staff never bill a counsellor's session against a PS code or vice versa.
- Confirm GST treatment with your accountant before setting the Taxable column. WorkSafe Victoria's schedule does not mark items as taxable or GST-free the way some other payers do, only that GST is paid on top where applicable.
- Each July, update prices in bulk: export billable items from Data exports, keep the Item ID and price columns, change the prices, and re-import with only the price field enabled. Cliniko gives no undo on an import, so keep the original export.
