WorkSafe Victoria chiropractic and osteopathy fee schedule 2026-27

From 1 July 2026 WorkSafe Victoria pays $131.12 for an initial chiropractic (CR100) or osteopathy (OS100) consultation, though the two professions got there differently: chiropractic's initial fee rose 54 per cent as separate home visit item codes were folded into a single rooms rate plus per kilometre travel, while osteopathy, which has never billed travel, rose the usual 2.35 per cent.

What changed this year

  • Chiropractic's initial consultation (CR100) rose 54.2 per cent, from $85.06 to $131.12, and the standard consultation (CR102) rose 19.2 per cent, from $59.80 to $71.28. Both are far above the roughly 2.35 per cent indexation the same items got last year and the rate osteopathy got this year.
  • The jump is a restructure, not just a fee rise. Under 1 July 2025, chiropractic billed separate, higher item codes for a home or work visit (CR120, CR121, CR122) on top of the rooms rate. The 1 July 2026 schedule removes those separate home visit codes entirely: chiropractors now bill the same CR100 or CR102 rate wherever the consultation happens, plus new travel item codes CR031 (metro, $2.50 per km) and CR032 (regional, $1.56 per km) if the visit involved travel.
  • Emergency attendance (CR130, $146.05 under the 1 July 2025 schedule) and the extended consultation for three or more distinct injuries (CR124, $159.49) have both been dropped from the 1 July 2026 chiropractic schedule with no listed replacement.
  • The long consultation for two or more distinct injuries (CR123) actually fell, from $123.33 to $116.55, a 5.5 per cent decrease, even while most other chiropractic items rose sharply.
  • Osteopathy rose the ordinary amount across the board: the initial consultation (OS100) moved from $122.25 to $131.12, about 7.3 per cent, and the standard consultation (OS102) from $81.77 to $83.69, about 2.35 per cent. Osteopathy has never had separate home visit item codes or a travel item, in either schedule.

One page, two professions, two different stories in 2026

WorkSafe Victoria's chiropractic and osteopathy fee schedules moved effective 1 July 2026, but they did not move the same way. Osteopathy had an ordinary year: the initial consultation (OS100) rose from $122.25 to $131.12 and the standard consultation (OS102) from $81.77 to $83.69, broadly in line with the roughly 2.35 per cent indexation applied across most WorkSafe allied health schedules this year.

Chiropractic had a genuine restructure. The initial consultation (CR100) rose 54.2 per cent, from $85.06 to $131.12, and the standard consultation (CR102) rose 19.2 per cent, from $59.80 to $71.28. Neither figure is a simple indexation jump, and the reason is that WorkSafe rebuilt how chiropractic home and work visits are billed.

Chiropractic's home visit codes are gone

Under the 1 July 2025 schedule, a chiropractor billed a different, higher item code for a consultation delivered away from the practice: CR120 for an initial home or work visit, CR121 for a brief consultation, CR122 for a standard consultation, on top of the rooms equivalents CR100, CR101 and CR102. The 1 July 2026 schedule removes CR120, CR121 and CR122 (and CR101, the brief consultation, along with them). A chiropractor now bills the same CR100 or CR102 rate regardless of where the consultation happens, and claims travel separately through two new item codes, CR031 for Melbourne metropolitan and CR032 for regional or rural, both subject to agent approval.

Two other chiropractic items dropped out entirely with no replacement: CR130, emergency attendance with a written explanation, which paid $146.05, and CR124, the extended consultation for three or more distinct compensable injuries, which paid $159.49. The long consultation for two or more distinct injuries (CR123) survives but actually fell in price, from $123.33 to $116.55.

Osteopathy never had this problem to begin with. Its guidelines contain no travel or home visit billing at all, in either the 1 July 2025 or the 1 July 2026 schedule, so an osteopath seeing a worker outside the clinic has no separate item code to claim for the visit location or the travel to get there.

Who can bill each schedule

Chiropractors must be registered with the Chiropractic Board of Australia through AHPRA, and osteopaths with the Osteopathy Board of Australia through AHPRA. Student, provisional, limited or non-practising registration does not qualify for either. Restricted consultations (CR105 for chiropractic, OS105 for osteopathy) need prior written WorkSafe approval requested only after an earlier consultation has been delivered, capped at 6 months per approval, and neither profession bills the restricted item until that approval has actually come through in writing.

Chiropractic radiology (the CX item codes) is only payable when the imaging is clinically justified and follows Chiropractic Board of Australia standards for the view ordered. Osteopathy has no equivalent radiology item codes in this schedule at all.

Loading two professions into one Cliniko account

Keep chiropractic and osteopathy as two clearly labelled blocks in your billable items CSV (Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax), Taxable, Item type), with names starting WorkSafe VIC Chiro or WorkSafe VIC Osteo, so front desk staff cannot accidentally bill an osteopathy consultation against a chiropractic code that now pays a different rate for the same length of visit. Archive, rather than edit, any CR120, CR121, CR122, CR124 or CR130 item left over from the 1 July 2025 schedule, since those codes are retired and old invoices referencing them should stay as they were raised.

Add the new CR031 and CR032 travel codes for chiropractic only, since osteopathy has nothing equivalent to load. For the chiropractic radiology list, start with the views your practice actually orders rather than importing all of them, then extend the list if your referral pattern changes. Roll the rest forward each July with Cliniko's export, edit, re-import cycle on the Item ID and price columns, keeping the original export since there is no undo.

Claiming notes

Load these fees into your practice software

  1. Import billable items in Cliniko from Settings, then Data & docs, then Data imports, then Billable items, Import, and load chiropractic and osteopathy as two clearly separated blocks in the same CSV.
  2. Use the columns Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax), Taxable, Item type, with a name that starts WorkSafe VIC Chiro or WorkSafe VIC Osteo so reception cannot bill a chiropractic rate against an osteopathy appointment or the reverse.
  3. If your Cliniko account still has CR120, CR121, CR122, CR124 or CR130 saved from the 1 July 2025 schedule, archive them rather than editing them. Those chiropractic codes no longer exist, and old invoices that reference them should stay as they were raised.
  4. Load CR031 and CR032 (chiropractic travel) as new items rather than trying to repurpose the old home visit codes. There is nothing equivalent to add for osteopathy, since it has no travel item in this schedule.
  5. The chiropractic radiology (CX) items are numerous. Load the views your clinic actually orders rather than all of them, and add the rest only if you start ordering wider imaging.
  6. Each July, update prices in bulk: export billable items from Data exports, keep the Item ID and price columns, change the prices, and re-import with only the price field enabled. Cliniko gives no undo on an import, so keep the original export.
