ServiceM8 and MYOB: which versions connect, and what syncs
ServiceM8 connects to the MYOB Business range (Lite, Pro, AccountRight Plus and Premier) and legacy Essentials and AccountRight files accessed online, in Australia and New Zealand only. Approved invoices go to MYOB; clients and materials sync both ways. ServiceM8's help centre says partial payments made in MYOB do not sync back.

What syncs, and when
| What | Direction | When | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invoices | ServiceM8 to MYOB | Approved on the Invoicing page (Online Dashboard or iOS app) | Zero value invoices are not sent. If a later edit changes the total, the line items re-sync. Invoices created in MYOB never come to ServiceM8. |
| Sent status | Both ways | Invoice printed, emailed or posted | Sent from MYOB shows as sent in ServiceM8; sent from ServiceM8 shows as Already Printed or Sent in MYOB. |
| Payments taken in ServiceM8 | ServiceM8 to MYOB | Only if received before the invoice is approved | Once a job is approved to MYOB, payments cannot be added to it in ServiceM8. |
| Payments entered in MYOB | MYOB to ServiceM8 | Invoice paid in full in MYOB | The invoice is marked paid in ServiceM8. Partial payments and removed payments in MYOB are not synced. |
| Clients and materials created in MYOB | Both ways | Immediately after entry or import in MYOB | Suppliers and inactive customers are not imported. Marking one inactive in MYOB removes it from ServiceM8. |
| Clients and materials created in ServiceM8 | ServiceM8 to MYOB, then both ways | Only when sent with an invoice | An unsynced ServiceM8 client is overwritten if the same client is keyed into MYOB by hand. |
| Tax codes and income accounts | MYOB to ServiceM8 | On connection, then on change in MYOB | Tax changes made in ServiceM8 do not go back to MYOB. |
What does not sync
- Partial payments recorded in MYOB. The ServiceM8 job keeps showing the full amount owing until the invoice is paid in full.
- Payments added in ServiceM8 after the invoice was approved to MYOB. Take the payment first, or record it in MYOB.
- Payments deleted in MYOB. They stay on the ServiceM8 job.
- Invoices raised directly in MYOB.
- Staff.
- Supplier cards and inactive customers from MYOB.
- MYOB AccountEdge, which does not offer the third party integration ServiceM8 needs.
- Existing financial history. ServiceM8 says no existing financial information is transferred from MYOB.
Set it up
- Check your region first. The MYOB wizard only appears for Australian and New Zealand accounts; if you cannot see it, check Settings, Preferences, Region & Language Settings.
- Agree invoice numbering with your bookkeeper. Each ServiceM8 job number becomes the MYOB invoice number, so if you still raise some invoices in MYOB, give ServiceM8 its own range or a suffix.
- In the Online Dashboard go to Settings, ServiceM8 Add-ons, find MYOB Integration and click Connect.
- Choose your MYOB version. For a legacy Essentials file, ServiceM8 says to pick Current MYOB Business Products (Cloud).
- On the MYOB Link step choose Online, then sign in to MYOB and click Allow access.
- Pick the company file and finish. Then send one small test job: set it to Completed, approve it in Invoicing, Awaiting Approval, and find it in MYOB.
- If you want payments from ServiceM8 to land in undeposited funds, set that in MYOB's banking preferences (Setup, Preferences, Banking).
Which MYOB you have decides whether this works
MYOB has renamed its products several times, so start by finding the name on your subscription. ServiceM8 supports the current MYOB Business range (Lite, Pro, AccountRight Plus and AccountRight Premier) and the older Essentials and AccountRight products. ServiceM8's setup guide has you choose Online for how you access the company file, so plan on an AccountRight file stored online with MYOB rather than one kept only on a desktop PC.
MYOB AccountEdge, the old Mac product, cannot connect at all. ServiceM8 says AccountEdge does not provide the third party integration a real time link needs. And the integration only exists for Australian and New Zealand accounts; if the wizard is missing, the account region is usually set wrong.
The payment gap compared with Xero
The ServiceM8 and MYOB link follows the same basic pattern as Xero: approve an invoice in ServiceM8 and it is created in your accounts. Payments are where MYOB is weaker. ServiceM8 only sends a payment to MYOB if it was taken before the invoice was approved, and once approved you cannot add payments to that job in ServiceM8. Going the other way, MYOB only tells ServiceM8 when an invoice is paid in full. A part payment keyed in MYOB leaves the job showing the whole amount owing.
In practice that means picking one place for payments. Offices that take card payments on site in ServiceM8 should approve after payment. Offices that chase debtors from MYOB should record everything there and accept that ServiceM8 shows jobs as unpaid until they are cleared.
MYOB invoices or ServiceM8 invoices
ServiceM8 describes two ways to work. You can approve jobs across and keep printing or emailing invoices from MYOB with your existing MYOB template, which changes nothing for your bookkeeper. Or you send invoices from ServiceM8 (with signatures, photos and a record in the job diary) and use MYOB only for accounting and statements. You can mix the two, but keep the numbering apart so MYOB does not jump between two sequences.

- Invoices are sent to MYOB when approved; zero value invoices are not sent. Payments in ServiceM8 go to MYOB only if received before approval, partial payments made in MYOB do not sync, and removing a payment in MYOB does not remove it in ServiceM8. ServiceM8 Help Center, checked 25 Sep 2026.
