ServiceM8 and WordPress: making a website enquiry create a job

ServiceM8 has no official WordPress plugin. Website enquiries reach ServiceM8 four ways: its own Online Booking or Simple Online Enquiry button, your form emailing the ServiceM8 Inbox address, a connector such as Zapier or Make creating the job, or a small integration using a ServiceM8 API key. Each handles lead source tracking differently.

What does not sync

  • ServiceM8 back to WordPress. None of these routes shows job status, bookings or quotes on your site.
  • Lead source, unless you put it somewhere on purpose: a UTM on the booking link, a line in the description, or a job note.
  • Google Ads click IDs and form page URLs. Capture them in hidden form fields or they are lost.
  • Webhooks from ServiceM8 to your site. ServiceM8 only offers webhooks to OAuth public applications, not to API key integrations.
  • Your ServiceM8 API key must never sit in page code or a browser script. Anyone who views the page source could use it.

Set it up

  1. Decide whether an enquiry should land as an Inbox message for a person to check, or as a job straight away. Most trades are safer with the Inbox, because spam and out of area requests never become jobs.
  2. For the simplest route, turn on Simple Online Enquiry (Account, Features and Integrations), copy the button HTML from the Online Booking settings and paste it into a Custom HTML block on your contact page.
  3. Add &utm_source= plus a name to each copy of the booking link (Website, Google, Facebook) so ServiceM8's booking reports split enquiries by source.
  4. If you keep your own WordPress form, add hidden fields for the page URL, utm_source, utm_campaign and gclid, and include them in the email or payload.
  5. Send the form to ServiceM8: to the Inbox email address, through a Zapier or Make scenario using Create Job, or through a server side integration using an API key.
  6. Put the source in the same place every time, for example the first line of the job description ('Source: Google Ads, /hot-water/'), so it can be reported on later.
  7. Submit three test enquiries from a phone and check the job card, the address and the source before going live.

Plugin, connector, booking embed or API

Searching for a ServiceM8 WordPress plugin mostly turns up generic tools. A search of the WordPress.org plugin directory on 25 September 2026 found no plugin built for ServiceM8; the closest is Advanced Form Integration, a general form connector whose ServiceM8 option creates clients and jobs. That leaves four real routes, and the right one depends on who reads the enquiry first.

ServiceM8's own Online Booking and Simple Online Enquiry forms are hosted by ServiceM8. You add a button to your site with the HTML snippet from the Online Booking settings, customers can attach photos, and requests arrive in the ServiceM8 Inbox ready to convert into a job with the details filled in. It is the quickest to set up and the least effort to maintain, but the form looks like ServiceM8's form rather than yours.

If your site already has a form in Gravity Forms, WPForms, Elementor or Contact Form 7, the Inbox email route is next simplest: point the form's notification at your ServiceM8 Inbox address and each enquiry arrives as a message to convert. A connector (Zapier, Make or the Advanced Form Integration plugin) skips the Inbox and creates the job directly. A direct API integration does the same without a monthly connector fee, and can do things the connectors cannot, such as adding a job note, setting the job category or applying a badge.

Keeping the lead source

The point of wiring your website into ServiceM8 is usually to know which marketing produced which jobs. ServiceM8's booking links carry this natively: add &utm_source=Google (or any name) to the link, and ServiceM8's online booking reports show visits, conversion and revenue by source. Self Serve Online Booking can also send events to a GA4 or Meta Pixel ID you enter in its settings.

With your own form, nothing is automatic. Capture the source in hidden fields when the visitor lands, then write it into the job in a consistent spot. Zapier's Create Job action has no source or category field, so the job description is the practical home. An API integration can put it in a job note instead, which keeps the description clean for the tech.

Where a private add on earns its keep

Connectors are fine at low volume. Once enquiries need tidying on the way in, such as matching an existing client by phone, choosing a job category from the service picked, or rejecting postcodes you do not cover, a small private integration is usually cleaner. It runs on your server or hosting, keeps the API key out of the browser, and stays well inside ServiceM8's limit of 180 requests a minute.
