NDIS dietetics price limits 2026-27

From 1 July 2026 NDIS pays $178.99 an hour nationally for dietetics (item 01_760_0128_3_3, Therapy - Dietitian - Direct Service), down from $188.99, a 5.3 per cent fall, the largest cut of any NDIS therapy discipline this cycle. What changed this year

  • The dietetics price limit fell 5.3 per cent for 2026-27, from $188.99 to $178.99 an hour nationally, item 01_760_0128_3_3. It is the sharpest cut of any therapy discipline in the schedule this cycle; exercise physiology fell 3.0 per cent and every other core discipline held flat or rose.
  • Dietetics dropped from level pricing with podiatry ($188.99) to sitting below it, now the third cheapest therapy discipline in the schedule after exercise physiology at $161.99 and, previously, level with podiatry.
  • There is still no distinct NDIS item number for mealtime management. A dietitian's assessment and planning for a participant's eating, drinking or swallowing needs is claimed under the same standard hourly item as any other dietetics session.

What NDIS pays for dietetics in 2026-27, and why it fell

The NDIS Pricing Schedule for 2026-27, effective 1 July 2026, cut the dietetics price limit to $178.99 an hour nationally, item 01_760_0128_3_3, down from $188.99 under the arrangements that ran from 24 November 2025. That $10 fall, 5.3 per cent, is the largest reduction any therapy discipline saw in this year's schedule. Remote and very remote rates fell by the same proportion, to $250.59 and $268.49.

The pricing document does not itemise a discipline-by-discipline explanation for the change; it states only that the schedule follows the Annual Pricing Review and the Fair Work Commission's Annual Wage Review. Clinics that quoted or set up service agreements against the old $188.99 figure before 1 July 2026 need to revisit them.

Mealtime management bills under the standard dietetics item

Mealtime management, the assessment and planning work around a participant's eating, drinking or swallowing needs, is not its own NDIS support item. The NDIA names nutrition as one of a short list of disability-related health supports, alongside dysphagia, but its guidance is that this work should be claimed using the standard therapy item for the relevant profession, not a special code.

For a dietitian, that means mealtime management planning, assessment and follow up bill under the same $178.99 hourly item, 01_760_0128_3_3, as a general dietetics consultation. Where mealtime management involves both a dietitian and a speech pathologist working on the same participant, each bills their own time separately under their own discipline's item, with no combined item that covers the joint work at a single rate.

Travel and cancellation

Provider travel prices at exactly half the direct rate, $89.50 an hour, and short notice cancellation lets you claim up to 100 per cent of the fee for less than 2 clear business days' notice or a no show. Non-face-to-face time, such as writing up a mealtime management plan for the participant's file, needs the participant's prior written agreement before it can be claimed against the same item.

Setting these up as billable items in Cliniko

Cliniko's billable item import and bulk price update tools carry the new, lower rate through cleanly, but the price cut is the part worth double-checking manually: any service agreement or quote issued before 1 July 2026 at the old $188.99 figure needs updating alongside the Cliniko billable item itself, since the two can drift out of sync if only one is changed.

Claiming notes

Load these fees into your practice software

  1. Add item 01_760_0128_3_3 under Settings, then Billable items, or bulk import a CSV with the columns Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax) and Item type, following Cliniko's billable item import process, and update the price to $178.99 if you carried over the previous $188.99 figure.
  2. Because mealtime management shares the standard item number, there is no separate billable item to create for it. Use the treatment note or appointment type in Cliniko to flag mealtime management sessions internally if you need to report on that work separately from general dietetics consultations.
  3. Refresh prices each 1 July with Cliniko's bulk price update: export billable items, edit the price column, then re-import with only the price field enabled, catching the 2026-27 decrease. There is no undo, so keep the original export.
  4. Live claiming through Cliniko's Tyro Health integration covers DVA and Medicare, not NDIS; the help centre has no article describing a real-time NDIS claiming pathway. Dietetics practices generate the invoice in Cliniko and send it to the participant or their plan manager to pay.
