What changed this year

  • The psychology price limit rose 8.6 per cent for 2026-27, from $232.99 to $252.99 an hour nationally, item 01_701_0128_1_3. Remote and very remote rates rose by the same proportion, to $354.19 and $379.49.
  • Psychology is now priced identically to positive behaviour support: both the psychologist direct service item and the two Specialist Positive Behaviour Support items (11_022_0110_7_3 and 11_023_0110_7_3) sit at $252.99 an hour for 2026-27, though they remain separate item numbers under separate registration groups.
  • Psychology remains the single highest-priced allied health therapy discipline in the schedule, around $60 to $90 an hour above occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry and speech pathology, which cluster around $184 to $194.

What NDIS pays for psychology in 2026-27

The NDIS Pricing Schedule for 2026-27, effective 1 July 2026, lifted the psychology price limit to $252.99 an hour nationally, item 01_701_0128_1_3, up from $232.99 under the arrangements that ran from 24 November 2025. That 8.6 per cent rise is well above the roughly 2 to 3 per cent movement most other allied health disciplines saw this cycle, and it carries through to $354.19 in remote areas and $379.49 in very remote areas.

Psychology stays clear of every other therapy discipline in the schedule on price. The next highest, podiatry, is $188.99, some $64 an hour below psychology's new rate.

Psychology and positive behaviour support are priced the same but claimed differently

A practice offering both psychology and positive behaviour support now sees the same $252.99 hourly figure on two different parts of the schedule, which invites confusion. Specialist Behavioural Intervention Support (11_022_0110_7_3) and Behaviour Management Plan Implementation (11_023_0110_7_3) sit under registration group 0110, Specialist Positive Behaviour Support, a separate professional registration from the 0128 Therapeutic Supports group most psychologists bill under.

The distinction matters because positive behaviour support does not require a psychology qualification. Behaviour support practitioners, who may or may not be psychologists, register and are paid under the 0110 group specifically, and providers should claim against whichever item matches the actual registration and service delivered rather than defaulting to the psychology code because the numbers now match.

Travel, employment therapy and cancellation

Provider travel is 50 per cent of the direct rate, $126.50 an hour, the highest travel figure in the schedule given psychology's base price. A separate item, 10_054_0128_5_3, prices identically to the standard psychology item but is claimed under employment supports for work-related assessment, counselling and advice rather than everyday capacity building.

Short notice cancellation allows up to 100 per cent of the fee to be claimed with less than 2 clear business days' notice, and non-face-to-face work needs the participant's advance written agreement before it can go on an invoice.

Setting these up as billable items in Cliniko

Cliniko's billable item import and bulk price update tools carry the new $252.99 rate in cleanly at the start of the financial year. Practices running both psychology and positive behaviour support should keep the two priced items separate in Cliniko even though they now share a dollar figure, so invoices and plan manager reports still show which registration group delivered the support.

Claiming notes

Load these fees into your practice software

  1. Create the billable item under Settings, then Billable items, with Item code 01_701_0128_1_3 and the new $252.99 price, or bulk import it via CSV using Cliniko's billable item import fields (Item code, Name, Price ex. tax, Item type).
  2. If your practice also delivers positive behaviour support, set up 11_022_0110_7_3 and 11_023_0110_7_3 as separate billable items rather than reusing the psychology item code, even though the price is now the same, so reports to plan managers itemise the correct registration group.
  3. Refresh prices each 1 July with Cliniko's bulk price update: export billable items, edit the price column, then re-import with only the price field enabled. There is no undo, so keep the original export before the 8.6 per cent increase lands.
  4. Cliniko's Tyro Health integration is built for DVA and Medicare, not NDIS; its help centre has no article describing an equivalent real-time claiming pathway for either psychology or positive behaviour support items. Both invoice the participant or plan manager directly.
