ServiceM8 form
ServiceM8 CCEW form that matches the eCert portal
This ServiceM8 Form collects every field Building Commission NSW's eCert portal asks for on a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, in the portal's order. The electrician fills it in on site, the office keys it into eCert, and the CCEW is lodged no later than 7 days after the work and its testing are finished.

Set it up in ServiceM8
- In ServiceM8 go to Settings > Forms > Add Form and name it CCEW eCert capture.
- Add the questions in the order shown. Keep the numbered section names so the PDF reads in the same order as the eCert screens.
- Add Skip Question If conditions: skip the written direction notice number unless Work type contains Rectification, skip tester licence number unless Testing done by contains Another, and skip the three metering questions when Metering work done equals No.
- Make the office questions not mandatory, so the electrician can finish the form on site and the office completes them later from the job card.
- In the Word template, lay the answers out in eCert order with the section numbers as headings, and add the job number at the top so the office can match it to the portal draft.
- Add a job queue or badge called CCEW to lodge, and clear it only once the certificate number is entered, so nothing sits past day 7.
- Lodge one real job with the electrician beside you to confirm your choice lists match the options eCert shows your licence type.
What changed on 1 July 2026
From 1 July 2026 every CCEW in New South Wales must go through the BCNSW eCert portal, either one at a time or through an approved API. Handwritten and PDF CCEW forms are no longer accepted. The old habit of an electrician filling in a paper book or a fillable PDF in the van, and someone posting or emailing it later, no longer produces a valid certificate.
The deadline did not move. A licensed electrician must submit the CCEW no later than 7 days after completing the work, including the safety and compliance test. It applies to any work that installs, repairs, adds or alters electrical equipment, including like for like swaps of hot water systems, ovens, cooktops and accessories. The penalty is 20 penalty units for an individual and 40 otherwise, under the Gas and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Regulation 2018.
Why the form follows the portal's order
eCert walks through five screens: the type of work, installation details, equipment and supply, customer and site, and test details, then the declarations. The portal only saves when you click Save and continue, so an office worker who stops halfway to ring the electrician about a meter number can lose the lot. The form below asks the same things in the same order, so the person lodging reads down the PDF and types across without hunting.
Two parts trip offices up most. The equipment screen wants each item as a type, a rating such as 415 V 63 A, a quantity and a description. The metering block only appears for metering work and asks for meter type (1 to 4), the meter service provider and whether it is network metering or an embedded network. Both are in the form, and the metering questions skip themselves when no meter work was done.
Who gets a copy, and where your email address matters
Once the CCEW is submitted, eCert emails the PDF to the installing electrician, emails the customer if their address was entered, and sends a copy to the energy provider. The certificate number arrives in the format YYMMXXXXXXXX. That makes the customer email the most important answer on the form: the electrician is responsible for it being correct. The form asks for it separately from the job card, because the job contact is often a builder or agent rather than the owner.
Lodging through an API instead
eCert offers an API so eligible businesses and software providers can submit CCEW data straight from their own systems. Building Commission NSW's guide does not name which products are connected, and ServiceM8 does not appear in it, so check with ServiceM8 before assuming this form can submit itself. Until then, this form is the field capture and your office does the lodgement.
What this form will not do
- This form does not submit to eCert. The Building Commission NSW guide does not list ServiceM8 as an integrated product, so lodgement is a manual step.
- ServiceM8 Forms have no repeating rows, so equipment is limited to the slots you add. Use the description line or add more slots for big jobs.
- Choice list options above are typical values. eCert's own drop down lists are the authority, so copy their wording once you see them in your account.
- The customer receives the certificate only if the email address is right. Nobody at eCert checks it for you.
