Fee schedule

Comcare occupational therapy fee schedule 2026-27

Comcare publishes occupational therapy upper limit fees for only four jurisdictions: South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. There is no published NSW, ACT, NT or Tasmania rate. From 1 July 2026 a Queensland initial consultation pays $137.00 and a Victorian initial standard consultation pays $116.56. Claims managers are not bound by these fees and set what they consider appropriate.

What changed this year

  • Comcare's published occupational therapy rates cover only South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. NSW, the ACT, the Northern Territory and Tasmania have no listed OT rate, so a clinic there calls Comcare on 1300 366 979 to confirm an appropriate fee before treating.
  • Victoria is the only jurisdiction that splits OT into a genuine standard versus extended structure with a home, hospital or workplace loading (VW02H), reflecting how much of the discipline's Comcare work happens away from a clinic.
  • South Australia and Western Australia both price occupational therapy per hour rather than per visit, so a 90 minute workplace assessment in SA bills as 1.5 times the OT105 rate rather than a single flat consultation fee.
  • Rates are reviewed three times a year, 1 February, 1 July and 1 November. Queensland, SA and Victoria sit on the July cycle; WA on November. None of the four currently sits on the February cycle.

Not every state has a published rate

Comcare's occupational therapy schedule is the narrowest of the disciplines in this family. It lists rates for South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia only. There is no NSW, ACT, Northern Territory or Tasmanian occupational therapy rate on the page, unlike physiotherapy and chiropractic, which cover almost every jurisdiction. A Sydney or Canberra based OT treating a Comcare client has nothing to check the invoice against and has to call Comcare directly to confirm what the claims manager will consider an appropriate fee before submitting.

Where a rate does exist, it is still only a guide. Comcare bases the figure on what it considers an appropriate cost of medical treatment under section 16(1) of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988, and claims managers retain discretion to pay a different amount.

Two different pricing models: per visit and per hour

Queensland and Victoria price occupational therapy the way physiotherapy is priced, a flat fee per consultation type: $137.00 for a Queensland initial consultation (QW015), $116.56 for a Victorian initial standard consultation (VW600). South Australia and Western Australia do it differently. SA prices both the initial assessment and the subsequent consultation at $238.20 per hour (OT105, OT205), and WA splits consultations into four bands from a $160.65 initial through to a $237.95 extended consultation over 60 minutes.

This matters for how you invoice a long assessment. An SA workplace assessment running 90 minutes is billed as one and a half times the hourly rate, not as a single consultation fee the way a Queensland visit would be, so your practice software needs to support a per hour item rather than assuming every OT visit is a fixed price line.

Home, hospital and workplace visits

Occupational therapy routinely happens away from a clinic, home modifications, workplace assessments, hospital discharge planning, and Comcare's states handle that inconsistently. Victoria is the only one with a named loading for it: VW02H prices a standard consultation delivered at home, hospital or work at $131.12, well above the $87.42 rooms rate (VW02R). Queensland, SA and WA do not split location out in their published tables, so the standard rate applies wherever the visit happens unless the claims manager agrees to something different in advance.

That makes it worth confirming location pricing with the claims manager before a home or workplace visit in a state without a stated loading, rather than assuming the rooms rate automatically covers travel and on site time.

Loading the schedule into Cliniko

With only four states published, most clinics will import a handful of items rather than a long list. The bigger setup decision is how to handle SA and WA's per hour pricing in a system built around fixed price items: either bill the full hourly rate and adjust down for shorter visits on the invoice, or build a smaller unit item (for example a 15 or 30 minute block) that reception can multiply out.

Because this schedule sits on a web page rather than a dated PDF, there is no single annual document to diff. Check the treatment rates page against your Cliniko items each review cycle, 1 February, 1 July and 1 November, rather than waiting for a single yearly update.

Claiming notes

Load these fees into your practice software

  1. Cliniko supports bulk import of billable items. Go to Settings, then Data & docs, then Data imports, choose Billable items and click Import.
  2. Build a CSV with a heading row and these columns: Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax), Taxable, Item type. Import only the rows for your own state, since Comcare's OT table is not national.
  3. For SA and WA, where OT is billed per hour, either add the hourly rate as the item price and note in the invoice description how many hours were delivered, or create fractional items (for example a 30 minute item at a quarter of the hourly rate) if your workflow bills in fixed blocks.
  4. Leave Taxable blank for occupational therapy consultation items, since medical treatment is not subject to GST.
  5. Upload the CSV, click Next to match information, check each column matched, then click Import and finish. The items appear under Settings, Billable items.
  6. Comcare updates rates up to three times a year. Set a recurring reminder for 1 February, 1 July and 1 November to check the treatment rates page, since Comcare's schedule lives on a web page rather than a dated PDF you can diff each year.
  7. Comcare accepts invoices digitally through Tyro Health. If your Cliniko account already uses Tyro Health for other payers, check your plan covers Comcare claiming before relying on it for OT invoices.
