Fee schedule
Comcare psychology fee schedule 2026-27
Unlike physiotherapy or occupational therapy, Comcare prices psychology with one national table, not a state by state one, banded by session length from 1 to 120 minutes. From 1 July 2026 a 46 to 60 minute consultation pays $268.61, matched for initial and subsequent sessions. A Comcare requested report (46 to 60 minutes) pays $296.96. Claims managers are not bound by these fees.

What changed this year
- Psychology is the only discipline in this family that Comcare prices with one national table instead of a state by state one. The same rate applies whether the session is in Sydney, Perth or Darwin.
- Initial and subsequent consultations pay exactly the same rate for a given session length, unlike physiotherapy where an initial consultation almost always costs more than a subsequent one in every state.
- Telehealth consultations (PO1 to PO6) are priced identically to the equivalent in person session length, so there is no telehealth discount or loading the way some physiotherapy states apply.
- A dedicated report item, RO3, exists only for reports Comcare itself requests, priced at $296.96 for 46 to 60 minutes of preparation. It is not for routine correspondence with a referring GP or the client's other treating providers.

One table, not eight
Psychology is the exception in Comcare's allied health pricing. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and exercise physiology are all priced state by state, largely mirroring each jurisdiction's own workers compensation scheme. Psychology is priced nationally: a 46 to 60 minute session pays $268.61 whether it happens in Brisbane, Hobart or Adelaide. That makes psychology the simplest of the four disciplines to bill correctly, since there is no jurisdiction lookup involved, only the session length.
Initial and subsequent consultations are also priced identically for a given length, item IO4 and item SO4 both pay $268.61 for 46 to 60 minutes. Physiotherapy schedules almost always price an initial consultation above a subsequent one to reflect assessment time; psychology does not make that distinction at all.
Seven bands from 15 minutes to two hours
The schedule runs in roughly 15 minute increments: $75.16 for 1 to 15 minutes, up through $146.64, $204.54, $268.61, $328.99 and $390.60, to $503.96 for a session running 91 to 120 minutes. Telehealth sessions (PO1 to PO6) sit on the same scale as in person consultations, so a 45 minute video session bills the same as a 45 minute rooms session, with no discount and no loading either way.
Bill the band the session actually falls into. A 40 minute consultation is a 31 to 45 minute session (IO3 or SO3, $204.54), not a rounded up 46 to 60 minute one, even if the appointment was scheduled for an hour.
The report item is narrow, and easy to misuse
RO3, priced at $296.96 for 46 to 60 minutes of preparation, only applies to reports Comcare itself has requested. It is not the item for a routine letter to a referring GP, a treatment summary sent at the client's request, or correspondence with another treating provider. Comcare's own invoicing guidance treats report writing and case conferences as GST applicable, unlike the consultation items, which are GST-free medical treatment, so RO3 needs the opposite GST setting from every other item on this page.
Loading the schedule into Cliniko
Because there is one national table, this is the most straightforward Comcare import of the four disciplines in this family: no state filtering, just 22 items by session length and telehealth status. Name items clearly by band, since reception matching a booked 45 minute slot to IO3 rather than IO4 is the main place an error creeps in.
Set every consultation item GST-free and RO3 taxable, the reverse pattern from exercise physiology, then check the treatment rates page each quarter, 1 February, 1 July and 1 November, for a price change even though psychology's national rate tends to move less often than the state based tables.
Claiming notes
- One national table: because psychology has no state variation, there is no need to check a jurisdiction column the way you would for physiotherapy, occupational therapy or exercise physiology. The session length band is what sets the fee.
- Comcare or a self-insured licensee: Comcare directly manages claims for most Australian Government agencies. Some corporations and Commonwealth authorities hold their own licence under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 to self-insure and manage their own claims. Confirm with the claims manager on the referral which of the two you are dealing with, and whether they use Comcare's published rates or their own.
- These are upper limit fees, not a fixed schedule. Comcare's own guidance says claims managers are not bound by these fees and can determine the amount they consider appropriate for medical treatment under section 16(1) of the SRC Act.
- GST: psychological treatment is medical treatment, so GST does not apply to the consultation items in the table. GST rebates cannot be claimed on the treatment itself but can be claimed on report preparation and case conferences.
- Report preparation (RO3) only applies when Comcare specifically requests a report. A discharge summary or update sent unprompted to a referring GP is not billed under this item.
- Session length bands run from a 15 minute band up to 120 minutes in 15 minute increments (except the last, which spans 91 to 120 minutes). Round the actual session length down to the band it falls in and bill that item, not a pro rata calculation.
- Invoicing: submit claim related invoices to Comcare digitally through Tyro Health (the preferred and fastest method), by email to general.enquiries@comcare.gov.au, or by post to Comcare, GPO Box 9905, Canberra ACT 2601. Tyro Health invoices for approved treatment are usually paid the next business day; other methods are normally processed within 28 days of a valid invoice.
- Each invoice must be itemised with a unique invoice number, the employee's name and claim number, your business and ABN details, your AHPRA registration number, the date and description of service, the cost, and the words "Tax Invoice".
Load these fees into your practice software
- Cliniko supports bulk import of billable items. Go to Settings, then Data & docs, then Data imports, choose Billable items and click Import.
- Build a CSV with a heading row and these columns: Item code, Name, Price (ex. tax), Taxable, Item type. Because the table is national, one CSV covers every Comcare psychology client regardless of which state your practice is in.
- Name each item by session length so reception can match it to the appointment duration, for example "Comcare IO4 Initial consult 46-60min" and "Comcare SO4 Subsequent consult 46-60min".
- Leave Taxable blank for the IO, SO, PSYT1 and PO consultation items, since psychological treatment is GST-free medical treatment. Set Taxable to your GST tax type for RO3, the Comcare requested report item.
- Upload the CSV, click Next to match information, check each column matched, then click Import and finish. The items appear under Settings, Billable items.
- Comcare updates rates up to three times a year, 1 February, 1 July and 1 November. Set a recurring reminder to check the treatment rates page and re-import updated prices, since Comcare's schedule lives on a web page rather than a dated PDF.
- Comcare accepts invoices digitally through Tyro Health. If your Cliniko account already uses Tyro Health for other payers, check your plan covers Comcare claiming before relying on it for psychology invoices.
